Vespa™ SS50 Supersprint Overview

The infamous and legendary Vespa™ Super Sprint. In the sixties piaggio needed a small, compact and high performance scooter to give the vespa™ a sporty racing image. Piaggio came up woth a styling feature that made this model unique from every other vespa™: the spare wheel fitted vertically in the centre of the scooter with a dummy fuel tank ( which is actually a glove box ) and a chest pad as seen on racing motorcycles. The lowered handlebars invited the rider to lean forward as low as possible to give the feeling of racing stance. 10" wheels were also fitted. The engine was modified to increase power including is characteristic SS chrome plated elongated exhaust. With is signature 'whistling' note as the throatle is pulled back.

Two variations of the SS were produced betweeen 1965-1971. Just 5,309 examples were made of the SS90 frame number V9SS1T. The rarer SS50 frame number V5SS1T had just 2,525 produced for export market and found there way to Germany, New Zealand and Canada. From 1971-1974 the spare wheel and dummy tank were removed being sold as sprinter models. The 90 version was given the celebrated name 'Gruppo Piloti Sportivi'.

Our Vespa™ super sprints are restored using genuine Italian vespa™ built S series frames, V5SA1T. Just like piaggio who use the same frame we slim legshields, dummy tank, drop headset, 4 speed, use the SS exhaust and engine specs to that of the SS. Top speed around 50mph and suprisingly quick. Indistinguishable and a perfect replica in every way. Available in red, white, blue and black. DVLA registered, MOT included, road tax exempt, 3 months parts warranty and delivery to your door can be arranged.
